1. Who we are
Mako Cats Math is published by MathCats (“we”, “us”), who is responsible for the processing described in this policy. The name and postal address of the person responsible are in the Impressum. If you have any questions about this policy, email us at MathCats@proton.me.
2. Information we collect
We, the developer, do not collect personal information through the app. There is no account, login or registration, and the app does not ask for names, email addresses, photos, contacts or precise location. We do not run any servers that receive data from the app.
Some information is handled by Google or Apple so that ads and purchases work. This is described in sections 4 and 5.
3. Information stored on your device
To remember progress between sessions, the app saves the following on the device:
- game progress, such as collected cats, gems and wardrobe items
- settings: language, music and sound effects
- whether full access has been purchased
- how many games have been played today, for the daily free-game limit
- a history of maths games played (date and time, chosen operations, number ranges and answer method, score and time spent), shown only on the in-app Statistics screen for parents
We cannot see this information. It stays on the device, except that it may be included in the device’s own backups if backups are turned on. On Android, this can include backup to your Google account. On iOS, it can include iCloud or computer backups. Those backups are controlled by Google or Apple, not by us.
4. Advertising Android only
The Android version shows banner ads served by Google AdMob. Every ad request is marked as directed to children (“child-directed treatment”) and as coming from a user under the age of consent. As a result:
- ads are not personalised and are not based on your child’s interests or activity in other apps
- ads are limited to content rated for general audiences
- the app does not access the Android Advertising ID
For advertising, measuring how ads perform and preventing fraud, the Google Mobile Ads software in the app sends Google technical information such as:
- IP address, which can be used to estimate general location
- interactions, such as app launches, taps and video views
- diagnostic information, such as app launch time, hang rate and energy usage
- device identifiers, such as the app set ID
We only receive summary reports from Google, such as how many ads were shown. Nothing in them identifies your child. Google handles this information under its own policies: the Google Privacy Policy and How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.
The iOS version contains no ads and no advertising software.
5. In-app purchases
Both versions offer an optional purchase that unlocks full access. Payment is handled entirely by Google Play on Android or the App Store on iOS, under their own terms and privacy policies.
We never receive your name, email address or payment card details. The app only receives confirmation from Google or Apple that the purchase is valid. It uses that confirmation to unlock full access and to restore it if the app is reinstalled.
Purchases require the store account holder’s approval. On iOS, every purchase and restore first shows a parental gate that only a grown-up can pass, and it cannot be turned off. Parents can also control purchases with Google Play parental controls or Apple’s Screen Time and Ask to Buy.
6. Children’s privacy
Mako Cats Math is designed for children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. The only information the app sends automatically is the technical information the Android version sends to Google AdMob (section 4). It is used only to show non-personalised ads, limit how often they appear and prevent fraud, and never for ads based on behaviour.
Purchases take place through Google or Apple and are meant to be made by a parent or guardian. If you are a parent and think your child has sent us personal information, for example by email, contact us and we will delete it.
7. Legal bases (EEA and UK)
If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, we rely on these legal bases for the processing described above:
- Performance of a contract, to provide a purchase you make
- Legitimate interests, to fund the app through non-personalised ads and to protect it against fraud
Every ad request is marked as coming from a user under the age of consent, so the app does not ask for consent to personalised advertising and Google does not show personalised ads. Google and Apple act as independent controllers of the information they process through their ad and store services.
8. How long information is kept
We do not keep any data from the app. Information on the device stays there until the app is deleted or its data is cleared. Google and Apple keep the information they process according to their own policies. If you email us, we keep your message only as long as we need to reply.
9. Your choices and rights
Delete game data
On Android, delete the app, or go to Settings → Apps → MathCats → Storage → Clear storage (the wording varies by device). On iOS, delete the app. To get full access back after reinstalling, open the unlock screen and tap “Already purchased? Restore” on iOS, or “Restore Purchases” on Android.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, privacy laws such as the GDPR may give you the right to access, correct or delete your personal information, to restrict or object to its use, and to complain to your local data protection authority. We don’t hold data from the app, so requests about ad or purchase data are usually best sent to Google or Apple.
10. Security
We don’t run servers that store data from the app. Information sent to Google and Apple travels over encrypted connections. Game data on the device is protected by the device’s own security.
11. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top of this page. If a change affects what information the app collects or shares, we will describe it in the app’s store listing or update notes before the change takes effect.
